In 1997, Silhouette comes anew with models that give lots of convenient detail items as standard equipments. For this year, dual sliding doors were added to Silhouette. It now comes with second-generation front airbags and side airbags for front row passengers were also added. Second row captain chairs are standard on GLS models and offered as an option in any other models.

 

Powering all Silhouettes is a 3.4liter V6 engine that is attached to 4-speed electronic automatic transmission with overdrive. All Silhouettes have a mileage of 18/25 mpg in city/highway. Regular Silhouettes are built in a 112.0 inches wheelbase and have an overall length of 187.4 inches while extended Silhouettes have 201.4 wheelbases and with an overall length of 120.0 inches.

 

For the steering and suspension, 1998 Silhouettes have Hydraulic power-assist rack and pinion steering, front disc/rear drum brakes with front vented discs, front independent suspension, front strut suspension, front anti-roll bar, front coil springs, rear non-independent suspension, rear coil springs and P215/70R15.0 front and rear tires. Safety is assured by the standard four-wheel anti-lock braking system, dual airbags and dual seat mounted side airbags.

1998 Silhouettes comfortably seats seven persons and its interior is packed with standard amenities including bucket front seats, adjustable front head restraints, driver and passenger front armrests, 6-way adjustable driver seat with manual reclining, manual height adjustable and manual lumbar support, detachable 60-40 folding rear split-bench seats, adjustable rear head restraints, detachable 50-50 folding split-bench 3rd row seat, cloth faced front seats with cloth side and back, cloth door trim insert with carpet lower, full cloth headliner, full carpet floor covering and carpeted floor mats.
