Oldsmobile Silhouette recall
Recall is being issued by the manufacturers when defects are detected among the
parts and the systems that operate in it. In 1993, manufacturer recalls 1, 543
units of Oldsmobile Silhouette because the PCV ventilation hose freezes while operating in temperatures
below 22 F. This defect will eventually cause crankcase pressure to eject oil
through the dipstick or rear seal which will further result to engine failure.
General Motors also ordered recall to 1997 Silhouette because according to them,
"some of these minivans possess an actuator that could jam in the unlatch position
on the power sliding door." This problem may leave the door unlocked and may
open under a particular operating condition. To remedy this defect, the dealers
will alter the suspect actuator with new actuator bracket assembly.
Another recall is issued on passenger minivans including Silhouettes manufactured
from April 1996 to March 1998. In minivans fitted with bucket seats or a split
bench seat in the second or third row, the seat latch mechanism doesn't have
protective covers. Because of this, a customer's finger(s) can be seriously injured
when activating the release mechanism to roll a bucket seat forward.

To solve this problem, the dealers will install protective covers on the outboard
latch mechanism on all left and right hand rear bucket seats in the second and
third row , and in the inboard and outboard latch mechanisms on the center rear
bucket seats and the 40 percent portion of the split bench seat.
